Magnetic Calendar - October

Ok so, depending on how you look at it, this month’s magnetic calendar is either right on time (it is October 1st after all) or really really late (I missed this month last year!). Either way, I’m really please with how it turned out. Of course I had to go with a Halloween theme and lots of orange and black.

I had a ton of Halloween stickers and embellishments in my stash to choose from – I love the skulls and the little crow stickers. There’s a special sticker for Halloween, one for Thanksgiving (it’s in October here in Canada) and the little cupcake returns for another family birthday this month. Here’s a few pictures to show you the details.

And with that, I only have two more months until I have an entire year of calendars completed! Magnetic Calendar - February

I’d like to give myself a pat on the back for having February’s calendar ready to post so early in the month but first I have to remind myself that I have yet to complete January. Oops - there’s always next year! The good news is that last year I started this project with March so next month I can begin reusing the months. But back to February. Here it is in all its pink and red glory!

 

As I said, I started this project last March which was just the right time to load up on clearance Valentine’s Day stickers. I had no shortage of embellishments to work with this month. Here are a few close-ups so you can get a better look.

Of course I’ll have to change out one square for my baby boy’s birthday – whenever he decides which day that is! The poor guy’s birthday month is looking pretty girly but I just couldn’t resist all the hearts. To see more of my calendar months or to learn more about how I made them you can click here. Magnetic Calendar - December

I know this post is a little (ok, a lot) late but I still wanted to share with you. I've fallen way behind in making my magnetic calendar - I missed October and November altogether - but I'm determined to get back on track. I started last March so I've really only got January and February to make before I can pull out last year's! In the meantime, here is December's calendar.

Obviously I had to go with a lot of red and green for December  but you'll also notice a blue square for the first night of Hanukkah. We have a couple of family birthdays in December hence the cupcakes and I also included some bottle caps, a few picture squares and a cute little elf. Here are a couple of detail pictures.

Magnetic Calendar - September

Well I've completed my September calendar and there are still 9 days left in the month so I'm calling it an accomplishment! I think the thing to remember is that I'll have it up for many Septembers to come so it's not so bad that it's only for a week this year.

Even though September makes me think of fall I didn't want to go too overboard since really most Septembers are quite mild here and the leaves are really only just beginning to change colour. So instead I tried for more of a harvest feel with reds and golds. I mixed in some fall flowers, a couple of apples and some of the cutest owl stickers I've ever seen. Magnetic Calendar - August

That's right, it's only just become August in my house! I've already explained the reason for my tardiness so let's just get to the calendar.

I wanted to make this month a celebration of the end of summer so I went with bright and tropical colours, pretty butterflies and flowers and cute little fruit stickers. You can see we also celebrated a family birthday in August so the little cupcake circle is back again.

Magnetic Calendar - July

Well I've been completely MIA for a while with a week of vacation and then family obligations and somehow July arrived! I can hardly believe that it's already July 7 - I didn't get a chance to wish my fellow Canadians a happy Canada Day or my American friends a happy Independence Day. I'll assume you had a great one all the same :)
Now that we're in a new month it's time for another magnetic calendar!

This month was all about summer, sunshine and the beach! Here are some close ups so you can see some of the stickers and other elements I used. I think my favourite is the little pitcher of lemonade!

Magnetic Calendar - June

Another new month means it's time for another edition of the magnetic calendar. Since last month was pretty and purple for Mother's Day I decided that June should be a little more manly in honour of Father's Day. This month is full of browns, greens and blues and I've replaced flowers with plaid and metal keys.

Here are a few close ups so you can see some of the elements that I used. I love the keys and the compass in place of the 28th. I found it a bit challenging to make a month that wasn't feminine just because most of my craft stash is pretty girly and I like to make these calendars without buying anything. I think I managed to do ok!

Magnetic Calendar - May

Life has become so hectic over the last month or so. My job now requires me to make 4 hour round trips on both Mondays and Tuesdays which makes for really long days that I don't feel like crafting at the end of! Half of that 4 hour trip is by train so I've taken a part-time job walking a colleague's dog to cover the fare. I do that at lunch when I used to post here which means I now have to craft and post at night. You may have noticed that I've fallen a bit off of my regular Monday-Friday schedule and I wanted you all to know it's not for lack of trying! I'm hoping to rediscover my life/work/blog balance soon. All that being said, I now present you with May's magnetic calendar, 5 days late! Click on any of the pictures to see bigger versions with more detail.

Since April showers bring May flowers I decided to use flowers and buttons this month. I was inspired by all the flowers I just planted in my front garden to use a lot of purple, pink and green. Here are some closeups of some of the details. I glued buttons on some squares and replaced other squares entirely with flower stickers or bottle caps with flowers and buttons inside. You'll notice that we have a couple of family birthdays this month and there's a special heart square for Mother's Day.

I cut all of the numbers out of scrapbooking paper using my Silhouette. The buttons are from Stampin' Up, the flower stickers are K & Company and the stickers in the bottle caps are from Sassafras. If you're inspired to make your own calendar you can check out my previous months here and here.

Magnetic Calendar - April

Last month I posted about starting a magnetic calendar with different squares for every month. I'm excited to show you my April calendar - full of purple, pink and bunnies!

This month I included some bottle caps with scrapbook paper and Easter eggs glued inside.

There are cute little Easter stickers for a few of the days and I also cut out some shapes like a little yellow chick and blue peep bunny.

Magnetic Calendar - March

From the moment I saw the awesome magnetic calendars over at Clean & Scentsible I knew I had to try my own. Last night I finished March. I made it all green and St. Patrick's Day-ish. What do you think?

It was actually pretty easy and inexpensive to do but it was a bit time consuming. I used a cookie sheet from our local dollar store ($1.50) and drew the calendar grid and the days of the week on it with black marker. Then I cut squares for each of the days out of scrap paper from my collection and glued them on to squares I cut from a cereal box to give them a little more strength (who needs chipboard?!). For the numbers, I used a Cricut.

As you can see, I didn't use numbers for every day but replaced some with stickers ($2) to give it a more varied look. I also cut the "March" with the Cricut and backed it with more paper and cereal box and added a big shamrock sticker. The last step was to back everything with magnets that I bought in a big self-adhesive roll ($10) and cut into pieces. Since I used a lot of stuff I had around the house I spent about $13.50 on this project and still have more than half my magnets left.

Right now I have it sitting on a plate stand on my shelf but I think I want holes drilled in it so I can hang it on the wall with ribbon. I can't wait to get started on April!
